Mixed Prints- Polka Dots and Stripes

A few days ago, I decided to try my hand at mixing prints. Because this concept is new to me I chose to take baby steps. We all know that you can never go wrong with black and white so I decided to use that as my base colour.

If you know me well you would know that I love polka dots..I just adore that pattern and I recently bought this skirt at JC Penney and was dying to wear it.

 Skirt: JC Penney
Vest: H&M

I added the red belt to achieve a little pop of colour. I hope that you all like the final look! PS I apologize for the background, my husband is my photographer and he does not take his job very seriously lol.

Thursday Workflow

Oh my! It's been such a long time since my last post, I have missed you guys tremendously. Like I said in my last post I recently landed a new job and boy is it demanding! I find myself in the office until 8pm on most nights. Nonetheless, I have been able to take a few outfit shots.

I wore this outfit a week ago to the office. It was Thursday and I was really stressed out so I decided to brighten my day. I had this skirt for quite sometime and never wore it, so I decided to pair it with some bright pieces to uplift the look.

Please note that I am not very good at posing for pictures..lol

Skirt: Larry Levine (Similar here)
Vest: Mall Store

Hopefully, it would not take me so long to post my next look.

All Black Everything

My husband decided to take me out to dinner as compensation for "family time" lost due to him working  the  entire weekend. For our night out, I decided to wear my black and white polka dot dress from Forever 21.

Dress: Forever21 (available here)
Shoes: Clavin Klien (similar here)
Earrings: Forever21
Belt: Local Boutique
I paired the dress with a green belt, I was thinking about using red but decided to try something new.I also wore a pair of Calvin Klien heels that I bought at Macy's and studded heart shaped earrings from Forever21.

What I love most about this dress it the open back  which gives it an extra sexy feeling.

What do you think?

Greetings from the Caribbean

As part of my new blog outlook, I have decided to start a series called " Greetings from the Caribbean". It's basically a weekly review of all things me i.e. fashion, sports, movies, work, travel etc. Since this is the first instalment, this would be a recap of the entire month (I apologise in advance for the length).

New Job
After a series of interviews, I finally have a new job with one of the World's Big Four Accounting firms. I would be working in the Advisory Department,  basically assisting companies  with Mergers and Acquisition, Business Valuation etc. A major bonus is travel, I am required to travel to other Caribbean islands where the company has offices. So look forward to the pics of my travel (and new work wardrobe).

New Hair Style
Every three weeks I visit my hair dresser to get a new hairstyle. I know the craze right now is Brazilian virgin human hair, however I still use synthetic hair from time to time. Check out the pic of my new hairstyle (minus make-up):

I am wearing Freetress Sweet Sixteen and Rose Body in #1, its affordable and it looks good. It last for about two to three weeks. I love human hair but I like to change my looks regularly so synthetic hair is useful at times.  I am going to do Brazilian Virgin Human Hair for my new job which starts next month so look out for the pics.

Current Obsession(s)
Pretty Little Liars

I am glued to my laptop every night watching past episodes of "Pretty Little Liars" I get a lot of perky, college "white girl" style inspiration from that show (Gossip Girl as well).

Jeffrey Campbell

I am obsessed with his platforms and wedges plus they are so affordable. My must have right now is shown above.

Caribbean Olympic  Pride
Unless you live under a rock you must know that the Caribbean is bringing the heatttt for the Olympics. Team Jamaica, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago are making the Caribbean proud.

The Caribbean athletes are bringing home medal and medal and settling/breaking records. I am just glowing with Caribbean proud.

Family
I was able to catch some pics of my Mom and eldest sister on their way to church. I have a large family (eleven brothers and sisters) so I am always happy to pose for some pics with mi familia.

Mummy and Eldest Sister
Mummy and I
Eldest Sister and I
In case your wondering, I am wearing a dress from Forever21, sandals from Bakers, handbag from Aldo (on sale now for $22), watch DKNY and earrings Forever21.

Stay tune for next weeks post in  "Greetings from the Caribbean"

New York Trip 2012

It’s been a while since my last blog post; nonetheless I am happy to say that I am coming to New York! This is my first trip to New York and I am super excited, I can’t wait to do some shopping. My husband and I will be in New York for one week (business for him, extreme pleasure for me!); I plan to engage in some major retail therapy.

For my trip to New York I need some help from everyone. I am basically a novice when it comes to New York, my major questions/concerns are:

  • What should I wear while in New York, we will be staying in Brooklyn (somewhere named Canarsie?). We will be doing a lot of walking as I intend to go everywhere looking for bargains.

  • Where in New York can I go shopping, I need an entire new wardrobe- casual wear, work wear, accessories, handbags, heels literally everything! So my question is- apart from the usual stores like Forever21, Zara, Asos, DSW, Marshall etc, can anyone recommend some stores where I can get some affordable clothes, shoes, accessories, handbags and cosmetics?

  • I am every interested in experimenting with thrifting (my husband said that if I wear anything from a thrift store he would divorce me lol). Does anyone know of any thrift stores in or around Brooklyn that I can find on my own as my husband would never entire a thrift store?

  • I want to invest in a good camera for my blog. Any suggestions/recommendation on a particular brand or what features I should be looking for (my budget USD 500 and under)?

I can’t wait for my trip, we are leaving on Saturday, we will only be in New York for a week so I intend to maximise my time. With everyone’s help I am sure that I can do it!

Thanks in advance peeps!

Interview Outfit

I experienced such a difficult time searching all over for the right outfit to wear to my interview. I loved the suggestions from my fellow bloggers primarily the navy blue pants suit idea so I decided to follow that advice. However, I could not find a navy blue pants suit anywhere, I also considered wearing a navy blue pants with a nude coloured blouse and my coral and nude heels from the previous blog. I searched all over again and could not find any navy blue trousers.

Fortunately, my mother in law was in New York for the Memorial Day weekend and went searching in NYC for my outfit. She could not find any navy blue pants or pants suit that I liked. However, she did find a super cute Calvin Klien little black dress that I instantly feel in love with. I received the LBD one day before the interview and had to do some last minute shopping to find some accessories and heels to go with the dress.

I am very disappointed that I was unable to wear my coral and nude pumps to the interview, however I am very pleased with the outfit that I wore. Nonetheless, I intend to continue searching for the perfect navy blue trousers to go with my coral and nude heels.

First Interview Footwear- Traditional or Modern and Unorthodox

I have a job interview for the position of Business Analyst at a successful company in less than a week. Its a big opportunity for me and I am very excited. But, I am undecided on "what to wear", my present work wardrobe consist primarily of dresses. I love dresses, and I recently bought this new pair of heels from www.justfab.com and I am dying to wear it, so I want to base my outfit around them (shown below).

Coral and Nude Coloured Open Toe Heels from justfab.com

However, my husband thinks that  it is not appropriate for a first interview and I should wear a colour that is more traditional like black or brown. I love my husband but he is killing my swag lol! My husband works for his parents who own a chain of urban clothing stores. Their stores are know to carry the latest trends and sell urban brands such as  Arami, Prada, Gucci, Baby Phat, Nike etc (mainly in men footwear and clothing). They also carry the latest trends in female clothing and footwear (I got the coral and brown colour block wedge that I am wearing in my last post from one of their stores).  Due to his line of work, my husband thinks that he is Michael Kors. He is constantly trying to pursue me to wear clothing that don't truly reflect my sense of style. That's the main reason why I started this blog, I want to showcase my style and get feedback from my fellow fashionistas.

Now back to the matter at hand, what do you think about my choice of coral and nude open toe heels for a first interview? Should I go traditional with a pair of black or brown pumps or modern and unorthodox with my justfab.com heels? BTW, the shoe is so comfortable! I love them.

I am looking forward to your feedback!

Shorts- "when and where to wear them"

My husband and I recently went out to watch a movie (Avengers) and have dinner. However, we had a huge argument over my outfit (shown above) as he insisted that I should not wear shorts to go to dinner (it was a semi formal Italian restaurant with no formal dress code). He believes that shorts are only appropriate for the beach and going to the supermarket. I totally disagree, I believe that when styled appropriately shorts can be used for most occasions. Don't get me wrong, I would not be caught death wearing shorts to a wedding or graduation ceremony. However, I do believe that shorts (of an appropriate length) can be worn to most semi formal events such as dinner and a movie.

Ladies, what do you think?
